Conferences
In 2004, the Chicago International Model United Nations (CIMUN) laid the first stones in what would become MUNDO. Founded on the campus of the University of Illinois, CIMUN has developed into the most innovative, challenging and realistic MUN conference in the US. Since 2004, our delegate count has quadrupled making CIMUN the fastest growing conference in the US.
In spring of 2009, MUNDO will hold the Pacific Invitational Model United Nations (PIMUN) in Bellevue, Washington.
Model UN Team and Conference Development
MUNDO takes pride in helping new Model United Nations teams start-up in high schools and universities. We are happy to work with delegates in developing basic skills for MUN, as well as working with faculty to prepare students for a successful experience.
We also work with high schools or universities in developing MUN conferences of their own. MUN event planning may include instruction in chairing, dais management, simulation development, logistical and event planning, marketing and sales, all tools which are essential for running a successful conference.
For more experienced delegates, we offer advanced training in delegate skill and strategy. For those looking to improve their chairing, MUNDO has a unique program that is used to train our own conference staff. All chairing programs include the instruction of drills we have developed to test the proficiency of our own staff.
In the Classroom
We have experience in developing classroom curriculum for elementary and secondary schools. All of our classroom programs are developed specifically for each school. It is our hope that we work closely with you to suit any particular needs or goals your classroom or school may have, including compliance with your curriculum.
Elementary School Programs:
MUNDO has worked closely with teachers in Oak Park, Illinois to develop international studies and United Nations education as a core classroom component. The objective of this program is to instill an interest in international affairs, as well as to provide students with an understanding of basic role and components of the system of international organizations. We also introduce a number of theoretical concepts such as moral relativism, types of government, and game theory.
In our experience, 4th grade students can be as knowledgeable about international affairs and proficient at Model United Nations than middle school, or on some occasion, high school students.
Secondary School Programs:
MUNDO develops educational modules that develop an understanding and awareness of international issues. We develop programs that introduce the basics in international relations. In secondary education, we have found that there is a void in international relations education. At the AP-level, there is a course for Comparative Politics, though none for international relations.
MUNDO has worked with schools in delivering an international relations component to that is complementary to the AP Comparative Politics course. It is our belief that students score higher on the Comparative Politics exam after developing a close understanding about how different types of countries interact, as opposed to being limited to learning about domestic politics and government of foreign countries.
